Standing Tall by Samantha Meurant
Originally a city girl from Toowoomba QLD, Samantha Meurant became immersed in country life after marrying a local Cunnamulla lad.
Having been a creative kid crafting on the lounge room floor or pulling out her built-in cupboard shelves in her bedroom to paint a mural, Samantha launched her professional career with a solo exhibition in 2016 at the Cunnamulla Fella Gallery. Since holding this sold-out exhibition, Samantha made it her aim to create art that brings vibrancy and beauty into people’s lives.
Samantha’s artwork is described as abstract realism inspired by nature and outback living. Her aim is to make your house feel like a home by colouring your walls with happy and joyful artworks.
Growing her arts practice, Meurant travelled around southwest Queensland delivering social painting workshops to communities. With a couple of breaks while having two children and starting and running her third child The Rural Compass (a podcast), Samantha has been able to follow her dream of being able to call herself an artist.
In 2022 she opened a studio gallery and workshop space in Cunnamulla’s town centre where situated her professional arts practice and provided workshops to adults and children.
Having recently returned to live in Toowoomba, Samantha Meurant continues to capture the beauty and vibrancy of the outback through her artwork.
No medium being off limits, Meurant’s artwork often start with various pieces of paper to create layers and texture but also to give some life to the canvas. Sheet music, old book pages, sewing patterns, old maps. Paintings are often in Acrylic however Samantha also uses other mediums such as pens, pencils, pastels to added extra detail into them.
Standing Tall is a vibrant exhibition which will be officially opened on Saturday October 28th at 6 pm, the exhibition will be on display at the Grassland Art Gallery until the end of November.
